Donald R. Poorman, Sr., 87, of Fort Wayne passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017. He was born on March 20, 1930, a son of the late Russell L. and Princess (May) Poorman. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at States Engineering in tool and die before retiring in 1995. He was a lifetime member at American Legion Post 241. He was the secretary for his Senior Golf League for over 25 years. He was also a committed bowler, bowling in the National Bowling Tournament many times even until he was 85 years old. Surviving family include his children, Donald (Theresa) Poorman II and Sherry McGinnis; grandchildren, Sara, Becca, Mariah (Joe), Heather (Joe), Matt (Stephanie), Adam (Sarah), Lance; great grandchildren, Joey, Logan, Tristan, Ivy, Megan, Clara, Emily, George, Alison, Skye, Jonathan, Jayson and Tyce; brother, Allen (Meredith) Poorman. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Janet D. (Myers) Poorman; granddaughter, Trisha Jean; son-in-law, Larry D. McGinnis; and sister, Beverly Fleck. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Waynedale United Methodist Church, 2501 Church St., Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 1-3 and 5-7 pm on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse.
