Rev. Howard F. Cherry 88 of Huntington passed away at 2:50 am on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Heritage Pointe of Warren. Howard was a 1945 graduate of Charlotte High School in Charlotte, Michigan. He was a graduate of Huntington College and Huntington Theological Seminary in Huntington, Indiana. He then received his Master's Degree from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne and later received his Doctorate Degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. Howard had pastored over the years at College Park United Brethren Church in Huntington, Indiana from 1964-1966, King Street United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania from 1966-1968, Hudson United Brethren Church from 1968-1969 in Hudson, Indiana, Hopewell United Brethren Church in Auburn, Indiana from 1969-1979, Union Church in Huntington County from 1992-1996. Howard was a Professor at the Graduate School of Christian Ministries at Huntington College from 1979-1992. He was a realtor for many years with Wilson Realty in Huntington; he was on the Board of Directors at the Huntington Senior Center. He was semi-retired from 1996-present. His passion was to minister to others locally and worldwide. He also spent time in Jamaica and Honduras training ministers. Howard was passionate about his family and thoroughly enjoyed all opportunities to get together.

Howard was born on March 28, 1929, in Potterville, Michigan, the son of Richard and Ruth (Snore) Cherry.

He was united in marriage to Suzanne Walters on October 4, 1952 in Charlotte, Michigan, and would have celebrated their 65th anniversary this fall.

Survivors include his wife: Suzanne Cherry of Warren; two daughters: Joanne (Brent) Brenneman of Fort Wayne; Janice (Jeff) Carter of Roanoke; two sons: Mark (Marla) Cherry of Wonder Lake, IL; Lon (Cathy) Cherry of Franklin, TN; a brother: Harold Cherry of Huntington; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Maurice Cherry and Herbert Cherry.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:00 am at College Park United Brethren Church, 1945 College Ave., Huntington, Indiana with Pastor Gary Dilley and Pastor Paul Hirschy officiating. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the services.

Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Huntington County.
